About the teachers
Robbie Norris teaches a specific fundamental yoga practice — The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga – both privately in people’s homes (RichmondPrivateYoga), and at his Jackson Ward studio, Richmond City Yoga. He has been practicing daily since he began at age 39 in 2001; and enjoys helping people of all ages and health statuses learn this practice, and adapt it to their particular situation. It is infinitely modifiable.
From 2008 to 2011, Robbie taught MCV medical students in the course, Yoga Anatomy, Physiology and Medicine.
Robbie welcomes and encourages students of all shapes, ages, cultures, races and backgrounds, bringing people together with a yoga practice that heightens collective abilities and good qualities, aiming to have a positive effect on the health and culture of the city of Richmond, Virginia.
Robbie graduated from Benedictine High School in 1980 (Classical), and from VCU in 1987 (B.S. Accounting).
Brad discovered the healing benefits of yoga in 2011, and Ashtanga Yoga shortly thereafter. He began teaching yoga in 2014. Since 2015, Brad has been deepening his exploration of yoga with a daily Mysore practice under the guidance of his teacher Robbie Norris at Richmond City Yoga. Additionally, Brad is grateful to benefit from regular periodic visits to Jennifer Elliott of Ashtanga Yoga Charlottesville, and her occasional guest teacher, John Campbell. Brad has been a percussionist for over 25 years and provides live drumming for yoga classes at studios throughout the East Coast, through Druminyasa. In August 2017, Brad had the honor of practicing under Eddie Stern of Ashtanga Yoga New York, as well as drumming for their Ganesh Chaturthi Festival.
